Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers about appointments, insurance, dental visits, and care at Rabbit Hill Family Dentistry.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Rabbit Hill Family Dentistry is accepting new patients at 5958 Mullen Way NW in South Edmonton.

What should I expect during my first visit?

The first visit is usually longer than a routine checkup. The team reviews your health history, takes images if recent ones are not available, and the dentist examines your teeth, gums, bite, and oral tissues. A cleaning may be done at the same visit if time allows. See What to Expect for the usual order.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a list of medications and allergies, photo identification, your dental insurance card if you have one, and any recent dental x-rays from another office. You can also complete the new patient form before you arrive.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Many people are seen about every six months. The right interval depends on your teeth, gums, and history. The dental team will recommend a schedule after an exam.

Can I transfer from another dental office?

Yes. New patients are welcome whether or not they have a current dentist.

Can you request records from my previous dentist?

Ask the previous office to send recent x-rays, or bring copies yourself. Call Rabbit Hill Family Dentistry at 780-432-3430 if you want help with what to request.

Do you see children?

Yes. We see children of all ages and recommend a first visit by age one.

When should my child have their first dental visit?

Yes. Infant oral care is available, and we recommend a first visit by age one.

Can my children and I request appointments on the same day?

You can ask for family appointments when you book. Whether they can be scheduled together depends on the day's openings.

What if my child is nervous about visiting the dentist?

Tell the team when you book. The team uses child-friendly comfort techniques, and nitrous oxide is available if extra help relaxing is needed.

Do you provide preventive care for children?

Yes. Children's exams and cleanings are available, along with fluoride treatments and dental sealants.

Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

Yes. Rabbit Hill Family Dentistry accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

Does CDCP cover all dental treatment costs?

Not necessarily. The federal plan publishes its own coverage rules, and some services need pre-authorization. The office can help you look at an estimate. Eligibility and the share of the fee that is covered are set by the program, not by the clinic.

Will I know my costs before treatment begins?

For non-urgent treatment, the office can help with a predetermination so you can see what your plan may pay before you decide. An estimate is not a guarantee. The insurer decides the final benefit.

Do you offer direct billing to insurance?

The office assists with predetermination and claims. The primary financial relationship is with the patient. You can pay the office and be reimbursed by your insurer, or the office can accept payment from your insurer and keep a credit card on file for any remaining balance.

Can I finance treatment if I don't have dental insurance?

A third-party financing plan is not published on this site. If cost is a concern, call the office. They can talk through an estimate and how treatment might be scheduled.

Can I use insurance and financing together?

Ask the office when you have a treatment estimate. Published payment information covers insurance claims and the balance arrangements described on the insurance page.

Can I book online?

Yes. Use the Book Appointment button. It opens the online booking page in a new tab.

What if I need to reschedule my appointment?

Call 780-432-3430 as soon as you know you need a different time.

How early should I arrive for my appointment?

For a first visit, plan to arrive about 10 minutes early so there is time to finish any remaining paperwork.

What is considered a dental emergency?

Call the office for a toothache, a broken or chipped tooth, a knocked-out tooth, swelling, or bleeding that will not stop. The team can tell you how quickly you need to be seen.

Can I get a same-day emergency appointment?

Same-day emergency appointments are offered when possible. Call 780-432-3430. Availability depends on the day.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

Call the office right away. Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root, and keep it moist, in milk if you have it, until you are seen. The sooner a knocked-out tooth is assessed, the better the chance of saving it.

What should I do if I have a severe toothache?

Call 780-432-3430 and describe the pain. If you have swelling or trouble breathing or swallowing, seek urgent medical care.

What if I haven't been to the dentist in several years?

You can still book. The first visit is used to see where things stand. There is no published requirement for how recently you were seen.

Are dental procedures painful?

Comfort depends on the procedure and the person. Local anesthetic is commonly used for treatment that would otherwise hurt. Nitrous oxide is available if you want help relaxing. Tell the team what worries you before they start.

I feel nervous about dental treatment. Can you help?

Yes. Say so when you book. The team can use comfort techniques, and nitrous oxide is available to help you relax.

How do I know if I need treatment?

An exam is how the dentist decides. You will be told what was found, the options, and what may happen if you wait, before treatment is started.

Do you provide dental implants?

Yes. Dental implants are placed and then restored with a crown, bridge, or denture.

Do you provide root canal treatment?

Yes. Root canal treatment is available to save teeth that are infected or badly inflamed.

Do you offer teeth whitening?

Yes. Professional teeth whitening is available.

Do you offer treatment for sleep apnea and snoring?

No. Rabbit Hill Family Dentistry does not offer sleep apnea or snoring treatment.

Do you welcome senior patients?

Yes. The practice sees adults as well as children. New patients are welcome.

Can you help me understand my CDCP coverage?

The team can help you read an estimate against your coverage. Eligibility and the yearly renewal are handled through the Government of Canada, not by the clinic.

What if I am on a fixed income?

Call and say so. The office can explain CDCP if you may qualify, and can talk about estimates. A separate discount program is not published here.

Are your dentists licensed in Alberta?

The dentists are Dr. Nadasha Ambikesan, Dr. John VandenBrink, and Dr. Oludare Ayodele. Dr. Ambikesan earned a BDS in India in 2015, completed Canadian equivalency, and was licensed in September 2024. Dr. VandenBrink has degrees in dentistry and chemical engineering from the University of Alberta and has practiced since 1992. Dr. Ayodele earned his dental degree at the University of Ibadan in 2013 and a Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

What infection prevention procedures do you follow?

Dental offices follow routine infection-prevention steps for instruments, surfaces, and personal protective equipment. Ask the team if you want the specifics used in this office. This page does not list equipment brands or a custom protocol.

How do you maintain cleanliness and sterilization standards?

Instruments that enter the mouth are cleaned and sterilized between patients, which is standard dental practice. Ask the team if you would like to know more about how instruments are cleaned.

How do you support patient safety?

The dentist reviews your health history, medications, and allergies before treatment. Tell the team about any change in your health before you are seen.
